Speech from Tami Ladowski, David Diego's niece,

during the Memorial Services on 09/01/02
at Congregation Beth Am in Buffalo Grove, IL

Hello and thank you for coming. Diego was my uncle, my only uncle. I love him very much. We used to e-mail each other, sometimes it would just be to talk to one another, and other times it was to thank him for a great present on my birthday. When he replied he always had a way to make me feel special.

When he found out my bat-mitzvah was coming soon, he said that he will always be there for me, and if I needed help with anything to ask him.

Now thinking of it he is still here for me, reading my torah portion over my shoulder and correcting me if I have a mistake, or telling me that I will be very good at my bat-mitzvah when I get frustrated.

I remember the time he came to Chicago. I was so excited when he arrived. I asked him if he would like to come to my 1st grade class for show and tell. I had so much fun bragging about my "cool" uncle.

He wrote down the Hebrew alefbet and explained how great a country Israel was. I had a really great feeling at the end of the day, I was so happy.

I'm so lucky to have had such a wonderful uncle like Diego and the memories of him will cling to me forever. I love him very much. Thank You.
